Email Drip Campaigns: How They Work and When to Use Them
Automation should make timely, relevant follow-up easier—not create a maze nobody understands. The best starting point is usually one simple sequence tied to one clear subscriber action.

Start with the trigger
Every automation needs a clear entry condition: a signup, tag, purchase, date, link click or another meaningful event supported by your platform.
Define one outcome
Decide what should be different after the sequence. A welcome flow may orient a new reader; a nurture flow may prepare a lead for a decision.
Keep the sequence understandable
Use the fewest messages and branches that reliably accomplish the goal. Complexity makes testing, maintenance and debugging harder.
Use segmentation carefully
Segment when the difference changes what someone should receive. Avoid collecting labels that never influence messaging.
Measure and improve
Review delivery, opens, clicks, replies, conversions or other relevant signals, but do not optimize one metric in isolation.
Choose software around the workflow
If your platform can capture the subscriber, apply the needed organization, run the sequence and report on it without awkward workarounds, it is probably capable enough.
